Dr Gabrielle Brand

Gabrielle Brand (PhD) is a Lecturer in Health Professions Education. She is a nurse, passionate teacher and qualitative researcher with a special interest in narrative. Her teaching and research interests include primary health care, community and social health care delivery, research with young people, consumer driven health professions education, reflective learning and integrating arts into health professions education curricula. She has designed and created a series of innovative reflective learning resources for health professionals and students titled ‘Depth of Field’ that uses photographs, narratives and collaborative dialogue to surface unexplored stereotypes and challenge learners through reflection to consider new perspectives around stigmatised patient groups that move beyond “diagnosis’ to a more humanistic model of care. Gabrielle was awarded the UWA Fay Gale Fellowship in 2016 to travel to the US to present her research at the Cleveland Clinic Health Humanities Conference and attend narrative medicine workshops at Columbia University in New York City. She has published and presented her work globally.
