Clerkships: Outer Urban Clinical School

In an initiative designed to enhance student contact with whole patient care, students selected for this clerkship can do their psychiatry clerkships at Joondalup Health Campus.

Joondalup Health Campus is the largest health care facility in Perth’s Northern suburbs, providing 24-hour acute care from an integrated public and private campus. The hospital has an Emergency Department, After Hours GP Clinic and on site MRI. Specialties and facilities include paediatrics, critical and coronary care units, public and private medical, surgical and orthopaedics, Day Procedure Unit, renal and oncology, public and private restorative units, day therapy, public and private obstetrics and gynaecology, specialist consulting rooms and ophthalmology.

Students are exposed to tertiary care patients and teaching while being involved in the management of the patients throughout the entire health system. The students follow patients from acute presentation in primary and community settings into tertiary care and management into the community.

Specialists in Psychiatry and General Practice teach in small groups and in one-to-one clerkships. This is an opportunity to have greater clinical exposure in a variety of clinical settings and for more first-hand preferential training.
